Baturalp Arisoy is a new PhD candidate at the Earth Observation Research Hub under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Tobias Ullmann. His previous experiences are based on remote sensing and GIS studies focusing on environmental issues. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Geomatics Engineering from Istanbul Technical University, where his thesis analyzes the effects of mass land surface change on the local climate using thermal remote sensing techniques. Subsequently, he achieved a master’s degree at the Technical University of Munich within a joint thesis project between the Department of Geoinformatics and School of Life Sciences, focusing on the spatio-temporal relation of Earth’s surface distribution with the biodiversity of living species, followed by a year of professional experience as an EO researcher, studying grassland and cropland.
At the present time, he is working on a project to characterize recent surface dynamics in arid regions. He is aiming to achieve the long-term detection of geomorphological processes and their frequency-magnitude relation with the ecosystem changes on a very diverse land surface in Mongolia. Another motivation of his is to fuse in-situ collected data with his Earth Observation findings, thanks to a series of joint fieldwork he’ll contribute.
