Workshop on the “Atlas of large housing estates”

Workshop on the “Atlas of large housing estates”

September 18, 2025

The project “Atlas of large housing estates” was presented today in an online workshop with representatives from housing associations. The project aims to provide, among other things, a comprehensive overview of the typologies of large housing estates in Germany. It builds on a previous joint project titled “Großwohnsiedlungen der Zukunft [engl. Large housing estates of the future]” – please see here: Großwohnsiedlungen der Zukunft. https://cloud.rha-planer.eu/s/gT63xgZazZwbiB9/download/547_230224_Abschlussbericht_digital.pdf

Dr. Michael Wurm from DLR-DFD – our lecturer in our EAGLE course – presented our remote sensing analyses in a lecture entitled “The large housing estates of Germany “. Dr. Vanessa Ziegler from Reicher Haase Assozierte gave an in-depth view on large housing estates and their transformation. The meeting was moderated by Prof. Reicher and Prof. Hannes Taubenböck.

The project is a collaboration of the RWTH Aachen, Reicher Haase Assozierte, and the German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD) of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). It builds on previous joint projects and publications – see here for some examples:
