Presentation at the ‘Geographic Society Würzburg’ by the EO Research Cluster

November 5, 2023

A presentation at the Geographic Society Würzburg on 23rd of October 2023 asked questions about building and living in Germany

Hannes Taubenböck gave a public evening talk titled “Germany – how and where we (want to) live” at the Geographic Society Würzburg. In his talk, he showed what types of buildings we live in, whether we live in urban or rural environments in Germany and how spatial statistics are susceptible to ambiguities. He discussed what it means how we live in terms of identity or ecological issues such as land consumption, but also what it means where we live, e.g. in terms of health issues.

In an outlook, Prof. Hannes Taubenböck discussed what we can expect from building and living in Germany in the near future and posed questions about how we as a society and as individuals imagine building in the future. The discussion, led by Dr. Michael Thiel and Raphael Meinhart, with the many visitors to the lecture once again showed the complexity of conflicting goals – because, according to Hannes Taubenböck, the ecological conversion of our living spaces is a very important goal that we must pursue, but this goal must always be considered and developed from a social and economic perspective at the same time. Lately, it seems that we haven’t always thought about all three perspectives.
