Tamilwai Kolowa is a Junior Researcher at the Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB) in Wiesbaden, Germany and is pursuing his doctoral thesis at our Earth Observation Research Cluster (EORC) of the Julius-Maximilians University Würzburg. The working title of his doctoral thesis is ‘Understanding the patterns of small-area urban and suburban population change‘.
His research revolves around how changes in internal migration, populations and the built environment shape cities and regions around the globe. For his PhD, he works with remote sensing and gridded population data to study population change at the neighborhood level. Tamilwai also has over five years of experience in urban development operations and climate change consulting with the World Bank. He holds an MSc in Economic Geography from the University of Groningen and an MA in International Relations from Freie Universität Berlin.
