October 19, 2026

We are delighted to welcome Magdalena Lauermann, who joined the Earth Observation Research Cluster (EORC) in October as a researcher working on the AQUAMOS project.

Magdalena has a background in physical geography, with a particular research focus on hydrological connectivity, fluvial biogeomorphology, and vegetation dynamics in riverine landscapes. In her doctoral research, she investigates how hydrological connectivity between rivers and their floodplains shapes vegetation development and habitat dynamics. Her interdisciplinary approach combines digital terrain analysis, satellite-based time series, field surveys, and hydroclimatic and soil hydrological monitoring to better understand the complex interactions between hydrological processes and floodplain ecosystems.

Within the AQUAMOS project, Magdalena will contribute her expertise in assessing the dependence of habitats on hydrological connectivity, alongside her experience in nature conservation. Her work will help bridge Earth observation, hydrological and ecological processes, and applications in nature conservation.

We warmly welcome Magdalena to the EORC team and look forward to working together on exciting research ahead!
