From 9–13 February 2026, EAGLE Master students took part in the block course “Cubes & Clouds – Cloud Native Open Data Sciences for Earth Observation”, taught by Dr. Insa Otte, Steve Hill, and Peter Zellner (DLR).

The course introduced key concepts such as data cubes, EO cloud platforms, and open science, guiding participants through a complete Earth observation workflow—from data discovery and processing to validation and FAIR data sharing. Through a combination of lectures, hands-on exercises, and quizzes, students gained both theoretical foundations and practical experience in cloud-native EO processing.

A highlight of the week was the collaborative creation of a community snow cover map, published openly as part of the Cubes and Clouds: Snow Cover STAC Collection. The course successfully strengthened participants’ technical skills and their confidence in applying cloud platforms and open science principles in their future EO research.
