The conference paper “From spatial to platial decision support in planning – Collecting platial experiences of wellbeing” develop from our ‘Super test site Würzburg’ team has now been published in the proceedings of the Fifth International Symposium on Platial Information Science (PLATIAL’26).
This paper advocates for a platial decision support approach in urban planning by integrating subjective well-being experiences into digital frameworks. Drawing on salutogenesis, therapeutic landscapes, and person-place relationships, it applies the Platial Decision Support System (PDSS) framework using multimodal, place-based data. Through the mobile app SpaceLog, geo-referenced text, images, and audio were collected from participants across Würzburg. The exploratory study shows how multimodal analysis uncovers nuanced differences in place experiences—even when conventional well-being metrics and structural conditions appear similar. Rather than replacing participatory planning, PDSS supports early-stage screening by identifying context-sensitive well-being dynamics and potential planning conflicts. The approach fosters more reflexive, human-centred urban transformation.
