Bridging Science and Practice: EORC and DLR at the SmartForest Conference in Freising

March 14, 2025

This week, researchers from the Earth Observation Research Cluster (EORC) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) participated in the SmartForest Conference in Freising to present scientific results from the projects ForstEO and ROOT. In addition, they engaged in discussions with key forestry stakeholders to foster collaboration in the EO4CAM project.

The conference was highly attended, providing an overview on current projects and developments and an excellent platform for exchanging ideas. Productive discussions took place with the Bavarian State Forests (Bayerische Staatsforsten) and the Bavarian State Institute of Forestry (Landesanstalt für Wald und Forstwirtschaft), covering current and future applications of remote sensing in forestry. These talks also helped lay the groundwork for an upcoming forestry-focused meeting within EO4CAM.

Furthermore, the event offered valuable opportunities to connect with researchers and industry representatives in the fields of forestry, remote sensing and artificial intelligence. Strengthening these networks will be crucial for advancing innovative approaches to sustainable forest management.
