EORC PhD student Lilly Schell, together with Dr. Insa Otte, recently conducted fieldwork in Botswana. They investigated the application of Earth Observation for  invasive plant species mapping and their impact on the ecosystem. Working closely with local experts, the team visited conservation areas, including Moremi Game Reserve, Nxai Pan National Park, and the Panhandle region of the Okavango Delta. They conducted on-site assessments and collected GPS data on both terrestrial and aquatic invasive species. These data will contribute to Lilly’s PhD thesis, which will focus on invasive species in African protected areas, providing a foundation for further ecological analysis and conservation strategies.
