Guest lecture by Dr. Nikola Sander and Martin Weinmann from the Federal Institute for Population Research

June 14, 2023

Dr. Nikola Sander and Martin Weinmann from the Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB) gave a guest lecture at the Earth Observation Research Hub at the University of Würzburg (JMU) on the 14th of June. In their lecture on “Dissemination of Science to the Public and Policy Makers” as part of the EAGLE course “Science from wall to wall – from proposal to publication (04-GEO-SOS8)” they presented how the Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB) communicates research results to the public and to policy makers. In their lecture, they addressed the importance of scientific policy advice provided by the BiB as a departmental research institution of the Federal Ministry of the Interior. Several examples were given to illustrate how data visualization can be used to make complex research results comprehensible to a broad public or what significance scientific policy advice can have for political decision-making, for example during the Covid-19 pandemic.
