We welcome a new PhD student, Helena Wehner, one of our EAGLE alumni.

Helena Wehner studied Physical Geography in her bachelors before she started working as fostermom and scientific assistant for the reintroduction of the Northern Bald Ibis, a highly endangered migratory bird species, for six years. Beside her conservation work she studied Earth Observation and Remote Sensing within the EAGLE study program at the university of Würzburg. Her focus is in connecting Earth Observation to conservation work for improved planning, management and monitoring of endangered animal species, especially migratory species. Therefore she is also highly interested in linking animal movement analysis to Earth Observation data to investigate the influence of a changing environment and climate on animal behavior and habitats.

Now she will pursue her PhD degree within the SOS project (serverless scientific computing and engineering for earth observation and sustainability research). In her subproject she will set up and test reusable high-volume earth observation data processing workflows for investigating causalities between land surface dynamics and animal movement pathways.
