Sonja Maas joined the Earth Observation Research Cluster (EORC) in October 2025 as a research assistant for the EO4CAM project.

After finishing her bachelor’s degree in forestry, Sonja Maas enrolled in the EAGLE M.Sc. program at the University of Würzburg, where she focused on earth observation with a strong emphasis on forest-related topics. Her interest in forestry, remote sensing, and bridging the gap between research and practical application is reflected also in her master thesis on LiDAR applications for forest management planning.

To deepen her practical expertise, she gained practical experience in both forestry and the remote sensing through internships at HessenForst, the University of Bergen, and the EO4CAM project at the University of Würzburg.

She is now beginning her PhD in the forestry working group of the EO4CAM project, where her research will focus on mapping and monitoring the vulnerability of Bavarian forests.
