In October 2026, the EORC launched AQUAMOS: “AQUAtic Breeding Habitats and Early MOSquito Warning Systems Using Remote Sensing and Environmental Monitoring”. The pilot project aims to develop a monitoring and early-warning approach for the formation of temporary water bodies and associated mosquito breeding habitats in the vicinity of Lake Chiemsee, Bavaria. By integrating high-resolution remote sensing data, hydrological and habitat modeling, environmental monitoring, and field validation, AQUAMOS seeks to identify conditions favoring the emergence of mosquito breeding sites and enable their early detection. The project will contribute to a better understanding of the spatial and temporal dynamics of these habitats and support evidence-based mosquito monitoring. The project is led by Dr. Florian Betz and Prof. Dr.
Tobias Ullmann and funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection. Project duration is from October 2026 until June 2028.
