New DFG Project Beta-For

A new DFG project started among other sites in the University Würzburg research forest and with the lead of Prof. Jörg Müller from the faculty of biology. Project summary (in german only) below:

Das DFG Projekt “Enhancing the structural diversity between patches for improving multidiversity and multifunctionality in production forests” befasst sich mit dem Zusammenhang von Biodiversität, Ökosystemdienstleistungen und deren Stabilität. In deutschen Wäldern wird seit Jahren ein durch Nadelwald-Monokulturen getriebener Rückgang der β-Diversität beobachtet, was laut Hypothese zu einer abnehmenden Multifunktionalität im Wald führt. Ein ökologisch orientiertes, nachhaltiges Waldmanagement, welches Störungen und Veränderungen im Wald auf verschiedenen Skalen zu-/belässt, kann zu einer Erhöhung der Heterogenität und Multifunktionalität beitragen.

In BETA-FOR wird der Einfluss von Waldmanagement-Praktiken auf die β-Diversität untersucht und in einem transdisziplinären Konsortium aus Forstwissenschaftlern, Biologen, Ökologen, und Geowissenschaftlern auch mittels Erdbeobachtung Strukturparameter im Wald erfasst und mit Taxadaten gemeinsam analysiert.

Überwiegend werden eigene originäre Texte und Bilder des EORC genutzt, jedoch sind einige Inhalte von blog post Texten teilweise mit Hilfe von KI überarbeitet worden und einige Bilder sind ganz mit KI erstellt, die jedoch deutlich keine photorealistische Darstellungen abbilden. Aussnahmen sind KI generierte fernerkundliche Datensätze, die explizit für Forschungszwecke mit KI erstellt wurden, hier wird aber durch den assoziierten Text der wissenschaftliche Grund der KI generierten Bilder erläutert.
