New PhD candidate Lorenza Gilardi

We are happy to introduce our new PhD candidate Lorenza Gilardi.

 

Lorenza holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental and Land Planning Engineering, which she earned in Milan, Italy. Since 2019 she works as researcher at the Earth Observation Center (EOC) of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), near Munich. Lorenza’s work focuses on the application of Earth Observation data, particularly air pollution, in the estimation of the health risk associated to environmental stressors. In 2023 Lorenza started her PhD journey within the Earth Observation Research hub under the supervision of Prof. Hannes Taubenböck, Prof. Tobias Ullmann and Prof. Heiko Paeth. In her doctoral thesis, she will continue her commitment to enhance the methodologies for air pollution exposure assessment, which is a parameter hardly quantifiable for large populations and geographical areas and that plays a crucial role in estimating health risks. Moreover, her research will also address the topics of environmental and health justice in order to investigate the presence of geographical inequality patterns associated to the exposure to environmental stressors.
