We are happy to introduce our PhD candidate Ariane Droin at our Earth Observation Research Hub.

Ariane Droin is a PhD student at our Earth Observation Research Hub at University of Würzburg and the Earth Observation Center (EOC) of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). She is under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hannes Taubenböck (Chair of Global Urbanization and Remote Sensing) and Dr. Michael Wurm (Head of the Team City and Society at EOC). She has conducted her Bachelor as well as her Master in “Applied Physical Geography and Mountain Research” at the University of Graz and her Master in “Geospatial Technologies” in cooperation of the University of Graz and the Technological University of Graz.

Her research interest lies in using geoinformation and remote sensing to derive small-scale information about urban form and its environment. In her current PhD research, she evaluates how navigational principles can be used to assess for example urban density on a local individual scale ( https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0198971522001375?via%3Dihub ). She currently is investigating how different local permeability is between German cities and how patterns can be derived. Her ultimate goal is to link local urban and environmental factors to the subjective well-being of the individuals.
