EAGLE Internship Presentation “Mapping Ecosystem Services in Norway”

EAGLE Internship Presentation “Mapping Ecosystem Services in Norway”

January 14, 2025

On January 28, 2025, Sonja Maas will present her internship on ” Mapping Ecosystem Services in Norway” at 13:00 in seminar room 3, John-Skilton-Str. 4a.
From the abstract: Nature plays an important role in human well-being by providing essential services such as the provision of food and materials, climate regulation, and cultural benefits. This internship’s main focus was on identifying, quantifying, and modeling these services, also known as nature’s contributions to people (NCPs). The work is part of the “NCP Norge” project, which aims to create a semi-mechanistic predictive model for the whole of Norway that can assess the impact of changes in climate, land use, biodiversity, and ecosystem management on NCPs and therefore on Norwegian society. My work included the preparation of core datasets and the development of a workflow to guide the selection of a semi-mechanistic model for selected NCPs. Additionally, I worked within the project “BEF-Up II”, which is focused on upscaling ecosystem service supply in a large scale research project, the German Biodiversity Exploratories. Here I assisted with parameter selection and data preparation.
