Exciting Milestone: Submission of Doctoral Theses

June 17, 2025

We warmly congratulate Ariane Droin and Dorothee Stiller on submitting their doctoral theses today! This milestone reflects their dedication and hard scientific work over the past years.

Ariane’s research focuses on using pedestrian networks to analyze individuals’ local neighborhoods. She investigated the impact of different spatial definitions of the local neighborhood on urban density, and analyzed the permeability and accessibility of local neighborhoods on a large scale.

Doro’s research explores the potential of remote sensing for analyzing urban transport in cities like Santiago de Chile, Medellín, and Berlin. It draws on diverse data sources, such as aerial and webcam imagery, public transport stop data, and OpenStreetMap, to estimate intra-urban population distribution, compare public transport accessibility, and monitor traffic.

We warmly congratulate them on reaching this important milestone!
