Special Issue related to JURSE – Call for Papers

In the course of the Joint Urban Remote Sensing Event (JURSE), which took place in Tunis, Tunisia, at the beginning of May this year, there is again a special issue related to JURSE and beyond.

The Call for Papers has just been published in the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing (JSTARS). The Special Issue is titled “Advancing Urban Remote Sensing for Sustainable and Resilient Cities“.

As cities continue to grow and evolve, the need for advanced remote sensing technologies to monitor, analyze, and support sustainable urban development has never been more critical. The convergence of geospatial data, artificial intelligence, and urban sensing presents unique opportunities to address pressing challenges, such as climate change adaptation, infrastructure resilience, environmental sustainability, or social equity. This special issue, inspired by the discussions and innovations presented at JURSE 2025, aims to showcase groundbreaking research in urban remote sensing that contributes to the development of more sustainable and resilient cities.

The guest editors are the local host of JURSE 2025, Riadh Abdelfattah from SUP’COM – University of Carthage, Tunisia, as well as the JURSE chairs Hannes Taubenböck from our EORC and DLR, Monika Kuffer from the Univ. Twente, The Netherlands, Clément Mallet from IGN in France and Eleanor Stokes from NASA, USA.

 

This Special Issue follows on from the JURSE Special Issue entitled “Exploring the Potential of Urban Remote Sensing” – see here: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/10960404 – which is based on the JURSE 2023 in Heraklion, Greece and was recently published.
