Ariane Droin will defend her PhD thesis “Permeabilität und Erreichbarkeit lokaler Nachbarschaften im urbanen Kontext. Eine geographische Analyse auf Basis räumlicher Netzwerke.” on September 16th at 4 p.m. at the John-Skilton Straße 4a, Seminar Room 2/00.B.03.
In her work, Ariane Droin, researched the spatial configuration of local neighbourhoods based on the street network. In a first step she evaluated the impact of different reference areas of local neighbourhoods on objective parameters like urban density. In a second step she calculated and compared urban pedestrian permeability of the local neighbourhood on a large scale for 78 large cities in Germany to uncover the impact of spatial patterns on it. In a last step she researched the accessibility of local neighbourhoods. She did that using the concept of the x-minute city by evaluating how different urban structure types impact the accessibility.
Everyone who is interested is cordially invited to join the presentation and the following discussion.
