New Earth Observation Project on Thermal Satellite Data

New Earth Observation Project on Thermal Satellite Data

December 16, 2025

We are honored that we are part of a new research and development project, focusing on the development of a satellite constellation capable of delivering high-resolution thermal data with a high revisit rate. The observations aim to make an important contribution to monitoring and managing global changes driven by climate change.

The generated data will address urgent, societally relevant questions related to climate change adaptation across multiple sectors, including urban infrastructure, agriculture and forestry, and public health.

The project is led by OroraTech GmbH (Munich) and brings together a strong consortium of partners:

  • Alfred Wegener Institute (Potsdam)

  • Robert Koch Institute (Berlin)

  • European Forest Institute (Bonn)

  • DLR-DFD (Oberpfaffenhofen)

  • University of the Bundeswehr Munich

  • Earth Observation Research Cluster (EORC), Univ. Wuerzburg

The Earth Observation Research Cluster is pleased to be part of this exploration project phase. We look forward to close collaboration and joint analyses with all partners over the course of the project. More details about this project will follow soon.
