EORC at the Savanna Science Network Meeting in Skukuza

March 2, 2026

Researchers from the Earth Observation Research Cluster (EORC) at the University of Würzburg are pleased to take part in this year’s Savanna Science Network Meeting, held in SkukuzaKruger National Park.

Our EORC is represented by Dr. Mirjana Bevanda and PhD candidate Luisa Pflumm, contributing to an interesting and interdisciplinary programme that brings together researchers working across ecology, remote sensing, and conservation science.

A particular highlight for us is their presentation, titled “Multitemporal UAS-Based Monitoring of Savanna Phenology and Drought Stress in Kruger National Park”. Their work showcases how uncrewed aerial systems can be used to better understand vegetation dynamics and drought responses in savanna ecosystems—an area of increasing importance under changing climatic conditions.

Beyond the individual contributions, the meeting itself – organised by the SANparks Savanna Science Network – offers a valuable platform for exchange. The diversity of participants, ranging from field ecologists to data scientists, reflects the complexity of savanna systems and the need for collaborative, cross-disciplinary approaches.

We are very much looking forward not only to presenting our research, but also to engaging in discussions, learning from colleagues, and exploring future collaborations. The breadth of topics and perspectives represented at the meeting promises inspiring conversations and new ideas for joint work in the years ahead.
