Invited evening lecture at the Werkbund in Munich

December 9, 2025

The Deutscher Werkbund Bayern e. V. has invited Prof Dr Hannes Taubenböck to give an evening lecture in Munich on the 8th of December 2025. The Werkbund aims to provide impulses for industrial and design culture and works towards a high-quality design of the human environment. https://www.deutscher-werkbund.de/einladung-montagsrunde-diagnose-homo-sapiens-was-sehen-erdbeobachtungssatelliten-und-wie-kann-das-der-menschheit-helfen-mit-prof-dr-hannes-taubenb/

As part of the “Monday Rounds”, Hannes Taubenböck gave a lecture entitled „Diagnose »homo sapiens« – Was sehen Erdbeobachtungssatelliten und wie kann das der Menschheit helfen?” [engl.] Diagnosis “homo sapiens” – What do earth observation satellites see and how can this help humanity?”.

In the lecture, he presents how satellites make the invisible visible. He shows how they allow us to measure building structures, trace gases or temperatures, detect and document changes to the land surface from space, from global urbanization processes to destruction caused by natural disasters or social conflicts. The fascinating technology of Earth observation demonstrates what remote sensing can do and how it can be used to our benefit with images that are as beautiful as they are informative.

Afterwards, the interested audience had a lively, exciting discussion about the insights gained from remote sensing and how this can contribute to a high-quality (urban) design of the human environment.
