We welcome our new PhD student, Dechuan Jheng, in the Earth Observation Research Hub. Dechuan completed a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning and Spatial Information, followed by a Master’s degree in Urban Planning in Taiwan. During his studies, Dechuan developed a keen interest in spatial planning and spatial data analysis.
Drawing on his expertise, Dechuan worked as a licensed urban planner, involved in projects related to science park design and city planning across Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines. Recognizing his aptitude for data analysis, Dechuan transitioned into the role of a spatial data scientist, specializing in AI and remote sensing applications for spatial planning.
Starting in July 2023, Dechuan began his PhD journey at the Department of Global Urbanization and Remote Sensing within the Earth Observation Research hub under the supervision of Prof. Hannes Taubenböck. His research focuses on the application of earth observation, (social) media data, and open data to better understand the interactions between humans and urban environments, aiming to contribute to sustainable development efforts.
