Participation in the 2nd RGV Intercomparison workshop

December 9, 2025

Last week (4 – 5 Dezember), our team member Sebastian Buchelt participated in the 2nd RGV intercomparison workshop, which took place in Fribourg, Switzerland. Together with researchers from several different countries, they discussed about developing guidelines to generate reproducible rock glacier velocity (RGV) data from various techniques including GNSS in-situ data, optical image correlation (e.g. from UAS) and satellite-based InSAR. RGV is a quantity of the Essential Climate Variable (ECV) Permafrost and a key parameter to understand the effects of ongoing climate change on mountain permafrost.

Sebastian Buchelt also presented results of his PhD thesis, discussing potential links between surface kinematics and subsurface resistivities.
