Eleanor Stokes from NASA talked at EORC

November 25, 2023

On Friday 24th of November we were honored to welcome Dr. Eleanor Stokes, Program Manager for the Earth Information Center at the NASA Headquarters in Washington D.C. for a guest presentation. The Geolingual Studies Team, the Department of English Linguistics and our Earth Observation Research Cluster were very happy to welcome so many attendees to the exciting presentation titled “NASA’s Earth Information Center – getting data and insights about planetary change out to the science-curious public“. In her talk she introduced NASA’s Earth Information Center (EIC) and the general mission to trace the path and process of gathering, interpreting, and translating data into actionable information. Prof. Dr. Carolin Biewer and Dr. Martin Wegmann welcomed Dr. Eleanor Stokes at the JMU Würzburg and the form in which cooperation can be intensified was explored.

Afterwards our EORC staff plus the colleagues from geolinguistics continued with a workshop on potential collaborations. Also our EAGLE students were very excited about the insights into NASA earth observation work and were keen to know more about how NASA operates and opportunities for students within remote sensing.
