Contributions to #ossym2026

October 8, 2026

The 8th International Open Search Symposium #ossym2026 takes place in Berlin from the 7th tot he 9th of October. 8th International Open Search Symposium ossym2026 – 7-9 October – Open Search Foundation . The Earth Observation Center (EOC) from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and our Earth Observation Research Cluster (EORC) have contributed in manifold ways.

A keynote presentation titled “The Pulse of the Planet: Remote Sensing and geoweb data redrawing the map of human behavior” was given by our Professor Hannes Taubenböck. In this keynote, he demonstrated the added value that can be derived from multimodal data streams combining remote sensing and web text data. The examples showed that issues such as the climate catastrophe, migration, urbanization or war can be described in a more holistic way, and that the complexities of our world are better understood.

Our former EAGLE student Vanessa Rittlinger, now working at EOC of DLR, gave a presentation titled “Extraction Of Geospatial Disaster Related Information From Web News And Text Data“. In it, she presented work combining remote sensing and web-based text data to gain a better understanding of developments in natural disasters such as floods.
