February 9, 2024

Congratulations to our team member Andrea Sofia Garcia for being featured in the 2024 edition of the magazine “Heroinas en la Ciencia, Tecnologia e Innovación.” This project is spearheaded by the Secretary of Science and Technology of the Guatemalan government and is conducted in commemoration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The initiative aims to showcase the work of Guatemalan women in the fields of science and technology and encourages the involvement of girls and adolescents in careers related to science, engineering, and mathematics. Sofia is a Guatemalan environmental engineer, who is currently pursuing her PhD in our department, focusing on enhancing the understanding of urban forests and the ecosystem services they provide through the use of remote sensing technology. She was also part of the 4th Generation of our EAGLE master’s program. You can explore her story and those of other Guatemalan female scientists here (in Spanish): senacyt.gob.gt/index.php/informate/revista?view=article&id=235&catid=9
