February 14, 2024

On 19th of January, Prof. Dr. Heiko Paeth (Institute of Geography and Geology, Working Group Climatology – Team Climate), Prof. Dr. Andreas Hotho (Computer Science X – Data Science, CAIDAS) and Dr. Martin Wegmann (EORC) and project team members met with representatives of SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) from agriculture, forestry and viticulture, and representatives of agricultural institutes, authorities and the government of Lower Franconia to jointly kick-off the second phase of the BigData@Geo 2.0 at the University of Würzburg.

One focus was to address challenges in the agrarian sector concerning climate change, such as extreme weather events and risks for agricultural production. Furthermore, the workshop provided ample opportunity to exchange and discuss with all actors involved. The workshop ended in the late afternoon with positive feedback from all participants, combined with the wish to meet annually in a large group and maintain and promote contact with each other in specialized small groups.

The project BigData@Geo 2.0 – From Data to Action using AI and Web Solutions in the Climate Change Nexus – North Bavarian Agricultural Sector at the University of Würzburg is co-funded by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The daily newspaper Main-Post, for the region of Lower Franconia (Bavaria) and the Main-Tauber district (Baden-Württemberg) reports here on the joint kick-off workshop.
