The 35th International Africa Festival, the largest event for African culture and music in Europe, is taking place in Würzburg again these days (May 30 to June 2). For the 15th time now, the University of Würzburg, represented by the Forum Africa Center (FAZ) as a central institution of the University, will be presenting Africa-related research and cooperation with African partners in the university tent on the festival grounds. Two members of the Earth Observation Research Cluster (EORC), Dr. Michael Thiel and Dr. Sarah Schönbrodt-Stitt, are on the FAZ board and take the opportunity to present EROC’s research projects such as LANDSURF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research, BMBF), UPSCALE (European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program), NetCDA (BMBF) and EOCap4Africa (Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, BfN) to the general public. We also let African guest scientists at the EORC have their say. The Africa Festival was officially opened by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Representatives of the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts, the Bavarian Research Alliance, the City of Würzburg, and the University Board will visit the university tent. The exhibition in the university tent can be visited until June 2nd.
