Practical Forestry Research – Use of Forestry Remote Sensing at the Bavarian State Institute of Forestry (LWF)

Rudolf Seitz – Head of Department | Department 1: Forest-related Information-technology | The Bavarian State Institute of Forestry | Hans-Carl-von-Carlowitz-Platz 1 | 85354 Freising

Summary: As the central research institute for remote sensing issues in the Bavarian Forestry Administration, the LWF is always on the cutting edge of current technological developments. Besides a great variety of other It-tasks, the department supports and initiates LWF projects by using remote sensing data and participates in remote sensing projects with external partners.  Due to the effects of the present climate change on the forests in Bavaria, our department has to contribute to the fight against a couple of symptoms of forest decline caused by various biotic and abiotic triggers. The presentation puts a spotlight on the most relevant patterns of damage in Bavaria and our possibilities for assessing the effects on the forests.
