Hannes Taubenböck represents EORC and DLR at the Science Slam – and wins!

November 9, 2024

This year, Hannes Taubenboeck took part in the Science Slam for the first time in front of a sold-out audience . More than 800 spectators saw a very enjoyable, informative and funny evening with seven great presentations from a wide range of research disciplines ( https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/alumni/aktuelles/science-slam/ ).

Our Professor Hannes Taubenböck competed with his short presentation “Ich sehe was, was Du nicht siehst ….” and won! Together with Prof. Trauzettel, who talked about “Warum man es als quantenmechanisches Teilchen im Leben leichter hat”, he took first place.

In his presentation, Hannes Taubenböck introduced the field of research of his team at EORC and DLR – urban remote sensing. He showed that sometimes you have to change your perspective in order to understand the world in a new or different way. And, remote sensing from space does just that. He showed how surprisingly humankind sometimes shapes the land surface, what ideas they pursue with it and how these findings may help to organize the scarce space on our planet more sensibly. In doing so, he not only poked fun at himself but also held up a mirror to the audience.

At the Science Slam, professors, doctoral students and research assistants from JMU and THWS compete against each other to win the favour of the audience. In the scientific short lecture tournament, everything is allowed to elicit the loudest applause from the audience.
