Visit to Seestadt Aspern in Vienna

January 18, 2025

Vienna’s Seestadt Aspern is one of the current largest urban development areas in Europe. By the 2030s, a brand new city will be fully completed in the east of Vienna. Living space for more than 25,000 people and over 20,000 jobs, education, and formation opportunities are intended to be created in several stages.

On 17 January 2025, members of our team – Ariane Droin, Henri Debray, Manuel Köberl and Hannes Taubenböck – visited Seestadt Aspern. Project manager Marvin Mitterwallner gave an exciting and inspiring guided tour of the planning ideas and concepts for a sustainable urban neighborhood that intends to combine high quality of life with dynamic economic development.
Such a project is of great interest for our research group, especially in the context of our studies on urban structures and spatial patterns and their relations to parameters such as air quality, walkability, access to green spaces, or quality of life.

We would like to express our sincere thanks for the warm welcome in Seestadt Aspern and the many insights into the status quo and the further goals of this major project.
