EAGLE Internship Presentation “Earth Observation for Construction Statistics” at the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy”

January 22, 2025

On January 28, 2025, Georg Starz will present her internship on “Earth Observation for Construction Statistics (BKG, Frankfurt)” at 12:15 in seminar room 3, John-Skilton-Str. 4a.

From the abstract:

The lack of affordable housing, especially in urban areas, is one of the most pressing problems in Germany. To cope with this, the government adopted a package of measures in fall 2023 for additional investment in the construction of affordable and climate-friendly housing.

Prompted by these developments, the “Earth Observation for Construction Statistics” (EO4ConStat) project, a cooperation between the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG), the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) and the German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD), aims to identify, segment, classify, and monitor construction sites in orthophoto and satellite data and to assess the potential of remote sensing methods for improving the German construction statistics.

During his internship at BKG in Frankfurt, Georg developed a workflow to simplify and accelerate the training data creation, using various additional data sources, and conducted and evaluated SamLoRA model trainings.

While EO4ConStat will represent the focus of his presentation, Georg will also highlight other work tasks from the past four months of his internship.
