If you know Würzburg, you certainly know the International Africa Festival, Europe’s largest and oldest festival for African music and culture. For 15 years in a row now, the university tent has been an integral part of the festival. This is where the Julius-Maximilians-Universität presents a selection of Africa-related research projects at the various faculties to the public. The Earth Observation Research Cluster (EORC) is also represented again, both as an exhibitor and as part of the University Tent’s Forum Africa Centre organization team.

A selection of research in and with Africa at the EORC can be viewed until June 1, 2025. For example, the EAGLE students Anna Bischof and Marlene Bauer provide insights into their drone-related work on mangrove monitoring in the Seychelles. EORC colleagues Dr. Insa Otte and Lilly Schell present their research on the spread of invasive plants in Rwanda using the example of Lantana camara in Akagera National Park. African guest scientists report on their experiences during their stay at the EORC. The role of remote sensing for research in Africa and the EORC’s strong cooperation network with African partners is also examined in the context of African research at the Würzburg Geosciences.

In addition, the Forum Afrika Centre shows the extended exhibition “Würzburg and Colonialism: Yesterday? Today!” as well as posters on the 140th anniversary of the Berlin Africa Conference and contributions from the fields of botany, economics, radio astronomy in Africa, the Planetary Health working group and the Else Kröner Center Würzburg – Mwanza.

We are delighted to be part of this exciting exhibition and look forward to interesting discussions on site.
