This week, representatives of our Earth Observation Research Cluster (EORC) and Informatics, Prof. Marco Schmidt, met with members of the Industrie- und Handelskammer (IHK) Würzburg-Schweinfurt namely Dr. Kagerbauer and Mr. Freitag to discuss the growing potential of Earth observation technologies for local industries in the Franconia region. We also showed our list of spin-offs from former employees or EAGLE M.Sc. students – a list that is steadily growing.

The meeting took place at our EORC and we discussed how satellite- and drone-based environmental data can support sustainable innovation. Topics included sensor development and applications in agriculture, forestry, urban planning, and climate adaptation, as well as ways to strengthen collaboration between research and regional enterprises.

Our discussions highlighted that Earth observation can offer valuable insights for resource-efficient management, risk assessment, and monitoring environmental change — key areas where local companies can benefit from advanced geospatial data and analysis.

We thank the IHK for the visit and the engaging exchange, and we look forward to further dialogue on how scientific expertise and industrial needs can be connected to foster innovation and resilience in Franconia.
