Invited evening lecture at the Ambassadorclub Munich

March 3, 2026

The Ambassadorclub Munich has invited Prof Dr Hannes Taubenböck to give an evening lecture in Munich on the 2nd of March 2025. The lecture was entitled „Diagnose »homo sapiens« – Was sehen Erdbeobachtungssatelliten und wie kann das der Menschheit helfen?” [engl.] Diagnosis “homo sapiens” – What do earth observation satellites see and how can this help humanity?”.

In the lecture, he presented how satellites make the invisible visible. He showed how they allow us to measure building structures, trace gases or temperatures, detect and document changes to the land surface from space, from global urbanization processes to destruction caused by natural disasters or conflicts. The fascinating technology of Earth observation demonstrates what remote sensing can do and how it can be used to our benefit with images that are as beautiful as they are informative. Afterwards, the interested audience had a lively, exciting discussion about the insights gained from remote sensing and how this can contribute to a humanistic world.
