EO4CAM Biodiversity Meeting in Würzburg: Connecting Research, Data and Applications for Biodiversity Monitoring

October 19, 2026

On October 15, 2026, researchers from the EO4CAM (Earth Observation Laboratory for Climate Adaptation and Mitigation) project gathered in Würzburg for a dedicated biodiversity meeting. The meeting brought together researchers working on different aspects of biodiversity, agricultural ecosystems, and environmental monitoring to exchange scientific insights, discuss opportunities for further collaboration, and coordinate the integration of research results into the EO4CAM data portal.
The meeting started with an overview of the current status of the EO4CAM biodiversity work package, followed by a series of presentations covering complementary research topics.

A key focus was the assessment and monitoring of biodiversity in agricultural landscapes. The presentations addressed crop yield modelling and biodiversity index mapping, as well as the relationship between grassland ecosystems and insect diversity. Another contribution focused on floristic diversity, highlighting the relevance of vegetation composition for understanding biodiversity patterns.
The scientific programme also covered agricultural heat islands, connecting the investigation of agricultural landscapes with local temperature conditions. In addition, an overview of data from the LandKlif project provided a basis for exploring potential connections between existing datasets and ongoing research activities.
The meeting fostered the exchange of information and scientific knowledge while strengthening collaboration among the EO4CAM project partners. Discussions focused on integrating additional biodiversity-related data layers into the EO4CAM data portal and brainstorming ideas for the development of new data products and applications.
These exchanges provided a valuable basis for further joint activities and the continued development of the project’s biodiversity work.
Further information and available datasets can be found on the EO4CAM Dataportal.
