Congratulations to Alexandra Bell on Her Successful PhD Defense!

April 1, 2025

We are pleased to congratulate Alexandra Bell on the successful defense of her PhD thesis, which explored the role of Earth Observation (EO) data in political decision-making. In her research, Alexandra examined how EO technologies interact with political processes, shedding light on their potential to inform and enhance policy decisions while also addressing some of the challenges and limitations that exist in this intersection.
Her work offers valuable insights into the evolving relationship between science, technology, and policy, emphasizing both the promise and the complexities of integrating satellite data into governmental decision-making. By highlighting areas where EO can offer meaningful contributions and where caution is needed, Alexandra’s research provides a balanced view of the field.
We congratulate Alexandra on this significant academic achievement and look forward to seeing how her research will continue to shape the conversation around the role of Earth Observation in shaping policy and governance.
