EOCap4Africa-Project Meeting at EORC

March 13, 2025

As part of the project “EOCap4Africa: Earth Observation in Africa: Capacity development for the conservation of ecosystems and their services” funded by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN), the team met at EORC and welcomed Simone Wulf from BfN to kick off the lecture training for the new master’s module Remote Sensing for Biodiversity Conservation. In this meeting participated our visiting scientists Espérance Kandjale (University of Kinshasa, DRC), Fraterne Rugira (INES, Ruanda), Da Costa Asare (KNUST, Ghana), Anastacia Makati (Okavango Research institute, Botswana), Janina Kleemann (University Halle-Wittenberg), Michael Thiel and Insa Otte (both EROC).

The exchange among the participants highlighted the strong demand for tailored hands-on lectures for empowering the usage of remote sensing analysis by future conservationist for monitoring fragile ecosystems and their services.
We are excited about the potential impact of this project in facilitating the impact of earth observation data to a large end user group.
We are thankful for fruitful discussions and look forward to the upcoming exchange with the next months of module training.
