Visiting Scientist Anastacia Makati from ORI at EORC

July 23, 2025

As part of the project „EOCap4Africa: Earth Observation in Africa: Capacity development for the conservation of ecosystems and their services” funded by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) we had the pleasure to host Ms. Anastacia Makati as a visiting scientist for three weeks at the EORC.

Anastacia is a GIS technician/Specialist at the University of Botswana, Okavango Research Institute in Maun. She holds an MSc degree in Environmental and Geographical Science from University of Cape Town. Her MSc project looked at Elephant space use in relation to ephemeral surface water availability in the eastern Okavango, Botswana.

Her everyday duties as a GIS technician are to create and manage geographic databases as well as to provide technical support to graduate students and academic staff at ORI and external researchers in the community. Therefore, she will also be involved in future teaching activities of our jointly created master’s module “Remote Sensing for Biodiversity Conservation” within EOCap4Africa.
