New Project: Multi-Scale Remote Sensing in DFG Project BETAFOR 2nd phase

We are pleased to share that our team is now officially part of the second phase of the DFG-funded project BetaFOR. In this context, Tobias Ullmann has joined the project as EO PI, the project consortium is led by Jörg Müller, and we will contribute our expertise in multi-scale remote sensing research using both uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) and satellite data.

This new phase builds on the strong foundation established during the first project period, where Mirjana Bevanda, Jakob Schwalb-Willmann, and Antonio Castaneda-Gomez put a lot of efforts into collecting a comprehensive, multi-sensor UAS time-series dataset across the study sites which they are also currently analysing. Their work has been instrumental in enabling the transition into this next stage.

In the coming years, our focus will be on analyzing multi-scale, multi-sensor, and multi-temporal Earth observation data acquired from UAS platforms. By integrating these datasets with satellite observations, we aim to better understand and explain changes in biodiversity patterns and their underlying drivers.

We are very much looking forward to contributing to this exciting research effort and to advancing the role of remote sensing in biodiversity science.
