Contributions to the European Space Imaging conference

May 20, 2026

The European Space Imaging (EUSI) conference took place in Munich from the 18th to the 20th of May 2026 – https://www.euspaceimaging.com/eusi-conference-2026 .

On Monday, the conference offered a visit to our “Center for satellite based crises information (ZKI)” at the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Dr. Anne Schneibel welcomed the participants and presented our works in the risk and disaster domains.

On Tuesday, Prof. Dr. Hannes Taubenböck gave an inspiring, invited keynote speech in the opening session titled “Global Urbanization – Surprising developments observed from space“. In his presentation, he elaborated on the largest migration movement that mankind has ever experienced: from the countryside to cities. Although mankind is in the information age, there are still major gaps in our knowledge of urban phenomena. With remote sensing data from space, he showed how data gaps on global urban dynamics, dimensions and structures of physical transformation as well as adaptation processes can be reduced.

Beyond this, Dr. Konstanze Lechner from DLR participated in a panel discussion on European resilience from space. This panel examined how Europe is strengthening resilience through space-based capabilities, aligning policy ambitions with operational needs and market realities.

In addition, Hannes Taubenböck moderated a session titled “Monitoring vulnerabilities: Earth observation for urban risk and infrastructure integrity across the mediterranean region“. The presentations and discussions centered around EO’s role in supporting proactive risk management, infrastructure oversight, and evidence-based planning, including the detection of land-use changes and stress indicators.

We have contributed to this conference over the years in manifold ways, see e.g. here:
