InnoLab at geomer GmbH

InnoLab at geomer GmbH

September 30, 2025

We have a long-standing partnership with geomer GmbH, in particular with Dr. Stefan Jäger and Dr. Andre Assmann, in many (inter)national projects. We are delighted that this partnership continues via our EAGLE student Gökce Budak.

Gökce has done her InnoLab at geomer GmbH and reports on her time there: geomer GmbH, based in Heidelberg, develops innovative geodata solutions that support risk management, insurance, disaster preparedness, and the energy transition. As part of my InnoLab, I contributed to a data project for a nationwide building level database, annually updated. I supported by developing a methodology for integrating basement information, which supports applications ranging from insurance and disaster preparedness to urban analysis. Currently, as a working student, I am involved in AI-based remote sensing projects that utilize high-resolution orthophotos to automatically detect and segment solar panels across Germany, thereby supporting the thematic extensions of the building database. My work focuses on developing and testing deep learning models to improve the quality and reliability of geospatial data, reflecting geomer’s mission of combining Earth observation and data science for practical, future-oriented application.
