Invitation to EORC Talk: Pathways towards a Healthy City

Invitation to EORC Talk: Pathways towards a Healthy City

March 3, 2026

We at the EORC are delighted to invite you to two EORC Talks in March. On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Christian Werthmann and Dr.-Ing. Christian Corral Burau from the Institute of Landscape Architecture at Leibniz University Hannover will present their research work.

In their talk, they introduce the One Health City Framework (OHCF) and the One Health City Index (OHCI) as conceptual and analytical instruments for rethinking and spatially assessing urban health conditions. They present the OHCF as a structure for analysis across three interdependent domains – actors (human and non-human), the natural environment, and the built environment – conceptualizing the city as an interconnected system in which the health of its constituent parts forms the foundation for overall urban health.

To translate this conceptual approach into spatial practice, they outline the OHCI as an operational tool comprising seven indicators organized across three analytical layers: proximity, exposure, and biodiversity. Applied at macro-, meso-, and micro-scales, the OHCI enables the identification of spatial deficiencies, supports the definition of strategic planning priorities, and offers a replicable methodology for advancing more sustainable and resilient urban environments.
