This Saturday turned out busier than we expected. At the Space Days at the University of Würzburg, Sarah Schoenbrodt-Stitt and Mirjana Bevanda represented EORC with a small booth, and the visitors were quite numerous.
Students and colleagues stopped by, as expected. But a good number of people from outside the university showed up too, curious and full of questions. They wanted to know what Earth observation research actually looks like in practice, and Sarah and Mirjana had plenty to show: our work on climate adaptation in Bavaria, from forest to urban and also research beyond Bavaria like snow, ice and fire.
And the constant stream of interested public did not stop. Two people can only talk to so many visitors at once, and at times it was nearly impossible to get to everyone who was interested. We also only scratched the surface of what we do. EORC works on EO topics all over the globe, and next time we should (and will) show much more of that, with more colleagues on site to share ongoing projects and have proper conversations – with many more roll-ups, screens and so on. We learnt our lesson, that the space days do attract much more people than we thought.
A big thank you to Sarah and Mirjana for giving up their Saturday to set everything up and run the booth. Great job, and thanks for being the face of EORC today.
