Workshop Report at the Department of Remote Sensing – March 17, 2021

We are glad to announce our next workshop report at the Department of Remote Sensing! On the 17th of March, Steven Hill, Pawel Kluter, Sebastian Förtsch, Simon Sebold, Insa Otte, and Michael Thiel (all Department of Remote Sensing at the University of Würzburg) will talk about Facing the Challenges of Big Data with Earth Observation Data Cubes”.

Abstract

Digital tools for environmental monitoring require a high degree of flexibility, a wide application range, and user-friendliness. The next generation of data analysis and visualization and the management and infrastructure of large volumes of EO data are cloud-based data cubes. Those are both useful and practical tools to deliver decision-ready products for users. Our data cubes aim to create an innovative data analysis infrastructure, supporting agencies and scientific institutions by reducing the complexity and effort of processing big data. Our data cube team is currently working on cubes for five different world regions, three of them located on the African continent and two data cubes associated with projects in Germany. Within this workshop report, we like to present and share our ongoing work on those EO data cubes with you.
