Exciting news for our team! A recent paper on slum dynamics in Mumbai by John Friesen, Nicolas Kraff and Hannes Taubenböck (https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/10613006) was featured by The Times of India, India’s largest English-language newspaper. The article, titled “Slums now cover 7.3% of Mumbai, down from 8%: Study” highlights findings from our research at DLR and EORC in cooperation with TU Darmstadt, which explores shifts in Mumbai’s slum areas and their broader implications.

This coverage is a valuable indicator of the relevance and impact of our research, showing that our findings resonate locally and hold value for both the public and the policymakers in India. Seeing our work taken up by local media underscores the importance of studying urban change in rapidly growing cities like Mumbai and reflects how research can drive conversations on sustainable urban development and social policy. We’re thrilled to contribute to this critical discourse and appreciate this recognition in such a significant publication.
